Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool is due to expire at the end of the season, with the defender seemingly heading towards the exit.
Although there have been positive updates on Mohamed Salah signing a new deal with Liverpool as Virgil van Dijk also looks set to pen fresh terms with the Reds, Alexander-Arnold’s situation appears to be more complicated than the rest.
With Real Madrid in talks to sign Alexander-Arnold as a free-agent next year, the England international’s future with Liverpool looks as uncertain as it ever has, with the defender looking likely to swap Merseyside with the Spanish capital.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Portuguese international sent a clear message to Alexander-Arnold on what he should do in regards to his Liverpool future, with Jota saying when asked what he’ll buy the defender for Christmas: “What would I buy Trent?
A paper and a pen, so he can sign his contract.”
Although Jamie Carragher has suggested that Alexander-Arnold should sign a new Liverpool contract that includes a buy-out clause, the current temperature of the situation strongly suggests that the Reds will lose the 26-year-old for free at the end of the season.

From the Liverpool academy to one of the best players in the world, the impending departure of Alexander-Arnold will sting more than most Anfield departures when the time comes next summer.
Yet for all the wrong moves Liverpool have made in trying to secure Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club, the board need to take on all the right lessons that will be learnt from allowing arguably the best right-back in the world leave for nothing.
Alexander-Arnold could have spent his entire career at Liverpool had the higher-ups at Anfield got the defender’s contract situation wrapped up a year or two ago, and the price the board will have to pay will now be a high one with the England star ready to leave for a new challenge.
