Sky Sports Germany has revealed the length of the contract Virgil van Dijk will sign at Liverpool.

Liverpool and Van Dijk are set to continue their almost seven-year partnership beyond this season.

The defender’s future has been one of the most-discussed topics among many Liverpool fans in the last few months.

Despite nearing the twilight years of his career, Van Dijk has remained as solid as ever.

He has has played every minute of their Premier League campaign this season, accumulating 2,747 minutes—the second-highest in the squad.

Not just has he played, the 33-year-old has been solid at the back, with his leadership and performances helping Liverpool stay at the top of the Premier League table.

Van Dijk’s current deal expires this summer, and he has been engaged in prolonged negotiations with the Anfield hierarchy.

After several months of negotiations, a definitive resolution has not been reached about his future.

Earlier this week, the defender confirmed that there was progress on contract talks.

Speaking to the media after the defeat to Fulham, the Dutchman said:

“There is progress, yeah,” he said, as quoted by The Athletic.

“I love the club, I love the fans, and they were there for us again, and we wanted to reward them.”

“But I want them to be there Sunday again (at home to West Ham United) and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”

Following Van Dijk’s statement, several reliable journalists have confirmed that indeed, the Liverpool defender and his teammate, Mohamed Salah, have agreed to new contracts at Anfield.

For example, the Athletics’ David Ornstein revealed that there is course for optimism in the Liverpool camp that the club captain will extend his deal.

Speaking to US news outlet, NBC, Ornstein said:

“It’s been my understanding throughout that Liverpool are confident and optimistic of renewing Van Dijk.

Now it’s a case of when rather than if he will put pen to paper, barring any last-minute hitches.

“The negotiations have been positive and cordial.”

Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the news in his latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast on YouTube.

“Liverpool are set to complete the agreement with Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk to stay at the club with a new contract,” Romano said.

“We can say that everything is being sorted, the final details of the contracts, then it’s going to be time for the paperwork – the lawyers are already informed that soon it’s going to be time to check everything.”

Sky Germany’s Florain Plettenberg has provided even more context on Van Dijk’s impending deal, revealing that the 33-year-old has turned down numerous approaches from other clubs to agree a two-year contract extension at Anfield.

“Virgil van Dijk will extend his contract with Liverpool!” Plettenberg wrote on X.

“The 33 y/o world-class centre-back has decided to stay at #LFC, despite receiving numerous approaches from other clubs – all of which he has turned down.

“Final details are now being discussed.

The plan is for Van Dijk to sign a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2027, as also reported by The Athletic.”

It is worth noting that FSG have made an exception for Van Dijk and Salah due to their enduring quality and importance to the team?

The Liverpool owners are often cautious about offering long-term deals to players over 30, but appreciates the quality of Van Dijk and Salah.
