Chelsea star Romeo Lavia has suffered another injury blow almost two years after being linked with a move to Liverpool.

It was in the summer of 2023 that the Reds were credited with an interest in signing Lavia, who was at Southampton at the time.

After having three bids rejected by the Saints, a £60million offer was eventually accepted by the St Mary's club, and Lavia looked set to move to Anfield.

However, the 21-year-old would instead decide to sign for Chelsea in a move reported to be worth around £58million.

Since choosing to move to Stamford Bridge rather than Anfield, Lavia has made just 14 appearances and has spent much of his time as a Chelsea player on the sidelines through injury.

Lavia has made 13 appearances this term, but has been missed several matches with a hamstring injury this term.

Transfermarkt claim that Lavia has missed a total of 62 matches due to various injuries since becoming a Chelsea player.

The former Liverpool target made an eight-minute cameo for Chelsea against Arsenal before the international break.

Enzo Maresca, the head coach of the London outfit, has revealed that Lavia has suffered a fresh injury blow.

"He was doing better in terms of progress, but unfortunately one day ago he had again a small problem," Maresca told reporters on Wednesday, via football.london.

"So we're going to see in the next hours."

Opening up about Liverpool's previous interest in signing him, Lavia told the Athletic last August: "You’ve never had my version.

The interest from Liverpool was there but, in my head, I wanted to play for Chelsea."

Liverpool are scheduled to face Chelsea on May 4 in one of their final matches of the Premier League season.

The Reds will go to Stamford Bridge looking to record a similar result to their 2-1 victory at Anfield back in October, and it remains to be seen if Lavia will be available for Chelsea.
