Liverpool’s Premier League title credentials were given a shot in the arm on Sunday after a 2-0 win over Manchester City.

The Reds have had a poor record at the Etihad Stadium over the last ten years but put an end to that with a controlled victory in Manchester.

The three points moved Liverpool 11 clear at the top of the Premier League table and made them firm favourites to lift the trophy in May.

One of the key reasons they are unlikely to relinquish that status is the form of star man Mohamed Salah.

Salah was brilliant against Man City, scoring the game’s opening goal before laying on the decisive second for Dominik Szoboszlai.

And as he moves onto 25 goals and 16 assists for the season, Mo now has 11 games to break the Premier League’s all-time record for both metrics in a single campaign.

Salah has been phenomenal all season long for Liverpool.

Regardless of whether the Reds win the Premier League, he is sure to be named the division’s player of the year.

Salah could also have a shot at the Ballon d’Or but that is likely to depend on whether Liverpool can go on to win the Champions League.

In the meantime, the 32-year-old will no doubt have his eyes set on writing further history in the Premier League with Liverpool.

Salah has broken the division’s scoring record in the past, having set a new high of 32 in 2017/18.

That was smashed by Erling Haaland’s 36 in 2022/23, meaning Salah needs 12 goals in 11 games to better Haaland’s tally.

That might be stretch.

In terms of assists, though, Mo has a real shot at equalling Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s joint record of 20 set in the 2002/03 and 2019/20 season respectively.

The Egyptian King needs to set up five more goals to reach 21.

While it looks unlikely that Salah will better Haaland’s haul of 36 goals, he should get relatively close to it.

He’s also well on course to smash the assists record.

Having registered 41 goal contributions so far, Salah is also not far away from the record in that overall metric, too.

Andy Cole and Alan Shearer currently hold the title in that respect, with 47 combined goals and assists in the 1990’s.

With 11 games still to play, there is a high chance that Salah sits atop of this particular list come the end of the season as well.

He needs eight to do so.
