Liverpool have moved a step closer to being crowned Premier League champions after another dream weekend in the title race.

The Reds came from behind to beat Southampton on Saturday thanks to second half goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, who netted a brace from the penalty spot to reach two milestones in the process.

It left Liverpool with a massive 16-point lead at the top of the table and even more clearer favourites to win the title in Arne Slot’s first season at the club.

Mikel Arteta has previously insisted that he would never give up on winning the title as long as it’s mathematically possible, but even the most optimistic of Arsenal fan will be losing hope after the weekend’s results.

After Liverpool’s comeback win, Arsenal’s struggles with regard to breaking down low blocks resurfaced as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

As a result, the gap now stands at a staggering 15 points.

Arsenal do have a game in hand over Liverpool, which will come at home to Chelsea next week when Liverpool play in the Carabao Cup final, but that is little consolation for the Gunners after dropping points in three successive fixtures.

Five of Liverpool’s nine remaining fixtures in the Premier League are at Anfield, including one against Arsenal, and it means Arteta and his players are relying on a major drop in form from a side who have lost only once in the league this season.

How many wins do Liverpool need to clinch the Premier League title?

Arsenal have 10 matches left to play in the Premier League this season and can therefore reach a maximum of 85 points.

If the Gunners were to win their remaining games, Liverpool would need 16 points which equates to five wins and a draw, from their remaining nine matches to guarantee themselves as champions.

Given their superior goal difference, 15 points is likely to also be enough.

If the current gap is maintained for the rest of the season, then Liverpool could win the title at home to Tottenham on April 26.

If Arsenal win their game in hand, against Chelsea, then the Reds can be crowned champions at Stamford Bridge on May 3.

The two teams will meet at Anfield on the weekend of May 10 and 11, and the Reds currently look set to be crowned champions before that game and, there, get a guard of honour from the Gunners.
