It has been revealed that Liverpool paid Jurgen Klopp and his staff a sizeable fee as a result of them leaving while still under contract.
Liverpool have announced their financial figures for the 2023/24 campaign – the club’s total revenue increased by £20 million to £614 million but recorded a £57 million loss before tax.
The German has certainly been busy.
Operating from his bases in Wiesbaden, Germany and Mallorca, Spain, Klopp has been working closely with Football Director Mario Gomez to oversee the strategic development of football operations across the Red Bull portfolio.
Klopp’s global tour of Red Bull’s football network began in Brazil at the beginning of the year, where he visited RB Bragantino in São Paulo.
During this South American leg of his journey, Klopp engaged with the club’s technical staff and conducted a comprehensive review of their football operations, marking the first stop in his assessment of Red Bull’s football portfolio.
Following his Brazilian visit, Klopp traveled to the United States to visit the New York Red Bulls.
The MLS side revealed the German’s presence at their snow-covered training facility, where he was photographed holding a personalized jersey bearing his name.
This visit coincided with the team’s pre-season preparations.
He also visited Japan this month, where he assessed operations at newly-promoted Omiya Ardija?
The Japanese side was recently acquired by the Red Bull group, potentially requiring significant attention from Klopp as they establish themselves within the organization’s framework.
And while Liverpool will likely feel like long ago for the German, he and his staff will still feel grateful for the payouts received by the club.
According to the Athletic, the club paid a total of £9.6 million to honor the remaining contractual obligations of Klopp and his key personnel, including Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, John Achterberg, Jack Robinson, Andreas Kornmayer, and Andreas Schlumberger.
This significant sum reflects the unexpired portion of their contracts, which were originally set to run until 2026.
