Liverpool have officially confirmed that Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract, securing his future at Anfield until 2027.

The Dutch defender, who has captained the team this season, extends his stay with the Reds at a crucial time as the club looks to maintain its position at the top of English football.

Van Dijk’s new deal is a significant boost for Liverpool, who have made it a priority to keep key players as they transition into a new era under manager Arne Slot.

Since joining from Southampton in 2018, Van Dijk has become a cornerstone of Liverpool’s defence, helping the club to major successes including the Premier League and Champions League titles.

There has been some discussion around how much the Dutch skipper will be earning at Anfield with his new deal.

However, the Times have now reported that his deal will be worth the same as his existing wages – £40millin or roughly £380,000 per week
