Liverpool have officially confirmed that Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract, securing his future at Anfield until 2027.
The Dutch defender, who has captained the team this season, extends his stay with the Reds at a crucial time as the club looks to maintain its position at the top of English football.
Van Dijk’s new deal is a significant boost for Liverpool, who have made it a priority to keep key players as they transition into a new era under manager Arne Slot.
Since joining from Southampton in 2018, Van Dijk has become a cornerstone of Liverpool’s defence, helping the club to major successes including the Premier League and Champions League titles.
This contract extension follows closely on the heels of Mohamed Salah’s renewal.
There has been some discussion around how much the Dutch skipper will be earning at Anfield with his new deal.
However, the Times have now reported that his deal will be worth the same as his existing wages – £40millin or roughly £380,000 per week
Paul Joyce adds:
“His earnings will remain at the same as before and there is provision for bonuses to kick in should he continue to perform at a level that is unsurpassed by his fellow top-flight centre backs”
“Contact with the player’s representative, Neil Fewings, of the ROOF agency, was first made in February 2024 by Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which own Liverpool.”
The skipper has played every minute of their Premier League campaign this season, and the 33-year-old is two wins away from becoming the first Dutchman to skipper a side to the Premier League title.
