Alexis Mac Allister was in the wars once again during Liverpool’s 2-0 win away at Manchester City on Sunday.
The Argentina international was one of the standout performers for the Reds as goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai sent them 11 points clear at the top of the table.
But the World Cup winner did pick up an injury during the clash, with Mac Allister taking to Instagram to showcase the extent of his battle wounds on Monday morning.
In an update on his story, the midfielder posted a selfie as he showed off a swollen cheek and black eye.

Mac Allister had received lengthy treatment at the Etihad during the first half following a coming together with forward Omar Marmoush.
The Egypt international had a goal ruled out for offside shortly after the half-hour mark, with City’s January signing falling into Mac Allister after the midfielder had tried and failed to block his shot with a sliding challenge in the box.
Mac Allister was ruled fit to continue and completed the full 90 minutes at the Etihad despite the blow, though he needed several moments to regain his composure after being assessed, before being allowed to rejoin proceedings.

While it is unclear whether the clash was the direct cause of Mac Allister’s black eye, the midfielder has admitted he felt ‘dizzy’ following the collision.

“Basically when Marmoush scored the goal which was disallowed he hit me, he landed on me and I hit the floor,” Mac Allister explained in the mixed zone after beating Man City.
“I felt a little bit dizzy but it is something that happens.”
Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday night at home to Newcastle United, with it remaining to be seen if Mac Allister will be passed fit to face the Magpies.
