Robbie Fowler has touted Micky van de Ven and Dean Huijsen as the perfect duo for Liverpool to sign in the event that club captain Virgil van Dijk decides to leave Anfield.
One such player is club captain Van Dijk, who will become a free agent in less than two months if he doesn't secure a new deal.

However, the Dutchman has confirmed that "there's progress" in signing a fresh contract, as he spoke to the media following Liverpool's close 3-2 loss to Fulham last weekend.

However, in the event that talks break down and Van Dijk doesn't stay at Anfield this year, Fowler has pointed out two proven Premier League stars that could do the job at the back for Liverpool.
The 19-year-old joined Bournemouth just last summer, but has already caught the eye of many other Premier League clubs for his impressive performances at the back.
In comparison, Huijsen is yet to miss a game for the Cherries through injury, starting 20 games for the club and making 25 appearances in total - with two goals and one assist added to his impressive displays in the top-flight.
Fowler told: "When it comes to potentially replacing Virgil van Dijk, I’m a big fan of both Dean Huijsen at Bournemouth and Micky van de Ven at Tottenham."

The former Liverpool star did praise Van Dijk's influence on his club, as he admitted it would be extremely difficult to replace the towering defender.
He is the absolute stand out in the Premier League and all effort should be made to keep him at the club.

"As a football fan you want your club to keep improving and keep signing good, valuable players, but first of all it’s about keeping your best players at the club.
There are good players out there but no one as good as him, if he does go then it should be someone that knows the Premier League.
