Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce believes Liverpool turned down the chance to appoint Ruben Amorim because he is 'too stubborn'.
The Portuguese tactician was named as a successor to Jurgen Klopp prior to the move to land Arne Slot.
The former Sporting CP boss was linked with the position following the German's shock resignation and the speculation came during a high-flying season in Lisbon as they topped the Liga Portugal table.
His Premier League move didn't come to fruition at the time, but he was handed the opportunity when Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag.

However, his appointment hasn't had the desired impact so far with United enduring a torrid season as they sit 15th.
The Red Devils currently sit closer to the relegation zone (12 points) than the European places (14 points) with pressure mounting at Old Trafford.
The Reds meanwhile sit top of the Premier League and now know their path to the Champions League final following confirmation of the draw against Paris Saint-Germain.
Allardyce explained his theory on why Liverpool opted for Slot, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, he said: "Swallow your pride.
I was told that’s why Liverpool didn’t want him (Amorim).
"He was too stubborn.
Liverpool didn’t want to play that way.
The Liverpool board said, ‘Liverpool don’t play this way’.
"The biggest problem is giving the new coach what he wants, and finding the money again to give him what he wants, and who does he want?
