‘I might do the same’: Gary Lineker shares what Mohamed Salah jokingly told him about leaving Liverpool

Mohamed Salah’s future has been the biggest talking point of the season for Liverpool fans away from the pitch.

The 32-year-old attacker is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with Salah’s current deal set to expire at the end of this campaign, with the Liverpool winger currently in the best form of his life having already hit 20+ Premier League goals.

With Rio Ferdinand backing Salah to break Thierry Henry’s Premier League goal contribution record, the Egyptian international is arguably the best player in the world right now, with the Liverpool no.

Which is what makes Salah’s ongoing contract situation so frustrating for Liverpool supporters, and the forward’s recent comments to pundit Gary Lineker could be a cause for concern for fans of the Anfield side.

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the Match of the Day pundit shared a humorous story about Salah after briefly meeting the Liverpool man last week before interviewing Arne Slot, where Lineker said he asked the forward about his future.

With Lineker bringing up he left England at 32-years-old to see out his career in Japan for a big pay-day, Salah jokingly replied that he could do the same if he were to leave Liverpool at the end of this season.

Lineker said: “He was just being funny, he was just kidding because the Liverpool press guy was there.

He just, it was just a joke.

But yeah, he was just joking, he has that cheeky sense of humour.”

With the transfer window taking most of the spotlight away from Liverpool’s contract problems, news on Salah’s future has been sparse in recent weeks, but there is optimism that the 32-year-old could be staying.

Martin Keown has backed Salah to sign a new contract with Liverpool whilst Robbie Fowler has theorised that a deal for the winger has been reached behind the scenes just waiting to be announced by the Premier League leaders.

Indeed, Salah’s future could well be resolved in the coming weeks with the distraction of the transfer window now out of the way, and Liverpool fans will be pleased to see their star player sign a new deal with optimism high around such a move.
