A shock FA Cup defeat denied Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard a dream send-off back in 2015.
The Reds faced a relegation-threatened Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium, with many expecting Brendan Rodgers’ team to set up the perfect farewell for the long-serving captain.
Gerrard, who was 34 at the time, had already announced that he would be leaving his boyhood club for LA Galaxy at the end of the season.
“Not many experts gave us a prayer of beating Liverpool in the semi-final.
“I think the final that year would’ve been Steven Gerrard’s last game.
We played really well, disappointing in the final of course [Villa lost 4-0 to Arsenal], but everyone played really well in the semi-final.
“I think Jack Grealish was the standout performer that day and sort of announced himself because he was still very young at that point.
Villa’s win over Liverpool came under new manager Tim Sherwood.
“It was frustrating for me at Aston Villa because I took a big wage cut to join Villa from Man City and then after a year I was bombed off,” Given explained.
A bit like Newcastle, it’s great that the new owners have got huge ambition, huge money behind them, and want to get Aston Villa back up to the very top.”
