The Championship club pulled off a shock win against the Reds with a Ryan Hardie penalty in the second half sending the Pilgrims through to the next round of the competition.
Up until that point, Arne Slot’s team were in contention to win every trophy on offer, although Steve Nicol believed a quadruple was not on for Liverpool.
The Reds travel to Goodison Park on Wednesday night knowing that a win over Everton will be a huge boost to their Premier League title hopes.
Liverpool can go nine points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the standings, which would give Slot’s team a great shot at a double having booked their place in the Carabao Cup final last week.
Ahead of the Merseyside Derby, Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Liverpool’s treble hopes and the CBS Sports pundit has taken the safe view towards the topic.

Having exited the FA Cup at the weekend, the majority of fans will view Liverpool as the favourites for both the Premier League and Carabao Cup in 2025.
The Champions League is the outlier for the Reds as there are still many great teams left in the competition and there is an element of luck required to get over the line in Europe’s biggest competition.

This is a view Carragher also seems to share as the former Liverpool defender thinks his old club can do the Premier League and Carabao Cup double this season.
When asked on CBS Sports’ coverage of the Champions League on Tuesday night if Liverpool will win the treble, the pundit responded: “No, I think the league is the most important for Liverpool this season.
“Once we start getting to March/April, I think the focus if Liverpool are playing midweek in a big Champions League game or a Saturday, I think most people will want the league… I think Liverpool win the league and the Carabao Cup.”
Carragher believes Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League have increased recently but who stands in their way of European glory?
OPTA stats recently published their findings that Liverpool are the favourites to win the Champions League this season with a percentage chance of 24.5%.
Most people will view the Premier League leaders in this way but the best team does not always lift the biggest trophy in Europe.
The likes of Arsenal, Inter and Bayern Munich will also be in contention to win the Champions League this season, which makes Liverpool’s path to the title a tough one.
