'I was completely wrong': Slot says he made a poor prediction to his Liverpool players at half-time last night

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest shared the spoils as a competitive game of Premier League football finished 1-1 at the City Ground.

Chris Wood broke the deadlock with an early goal to give Forest the lead, but the Reds struck back through Diogo Jota, who scored moments after coming on as a substitute.

Liverpool weren’t at their best – particularly in the first half – but as the game went on, they showed their class and created a lot of chances in the second half.

And Arne Slot says he told something to his players at halftime that turned out to be ‘completely wrong’ in hindsight.

Liverpool have now won just three of their last seven games in the Premier League but they won’t feel too hard done by the result against Forest as it was a fair reflection of the game.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been the surprise package of the Premier League season so far and their direct brand of football coupled with their counter-attacking excellence has been a thorn in the flesh of opposition teams.

Liverpool got a taste of it in the reverse fixture as Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a great goal to win the game for his side and were pegged back once again through Wood, who scored his 13th Premier League goal of the season.

Jota scored a header from close range to earn Liverpool a point after a brilliant cross from Kostas Tsimikas, but the Reds went into the interval a goal behind.

And Slot reveals he told his players that they wouldn’t get too many chances, which wasn’t the case as they really stepped it up after the interval.

“I said to them at half-time don’t get frustrated,” said Slot in his post-match press conference.

“You will not get many chances, probably the game is going to be slow, but just keep focusing on what you have to do and hopefully you will get two or three chances and let’s try to score from that.

“I was completely wrong because they created chance after chance after chance.”

A Premier League clash against Brentford awaits on Saturday, which is another tricky away trip as Thomas Frank’s side have been brilliant in front of their home fans this season.

Clinton Morrison feels Liverpool are still favourites to win the Premier League title this season despite their result against Forest, but with Arsenal breathing down their necks, anything but a win against the Bees would be a bad result for the Reds.

The Gunners could reduce the gap at the top of the table to four points tonight if they beat Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby, so there isn’t too much margin for error at this point in time.
