Arsenal legend Ian Wright has revealed that he feels Alexander Isak would prefer a move to Liverpool over Arsenal, should it come to that in the coming summer window.
The Newcastle United man has become the focal point of a potential high-stakes tug-of-war between Liverpool and Arsenal, two clubs desperate to secure a striker capable of elevating their sides.
The Swedish forward, whose 19 Premier League goals this season trail only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah, embodies the rare blend of technical precision, physical profile, and clinical finishing that modern elite football demands.
Liverpool’s interest in Isak stems from a confluence of factors: Darwin Nunez’s inconsistent form and Arne Slot’s desire to build a more ruthless attacking unit with the likes of Diogo Jota unable to stay fit for big chunks of the season.
Alexander Isak?

For Arsenal, Isak represents the final piece in Mikel Arteta’s tactical puzzle- the Gunners need a big name in the No.9 position.
Despite leading the Premier League in expected goals (xG), the Gunners rank fifth in actual conversions—a flaw Arteta believes Isak’s composure can remedy.
Their interest dates to 2022, when they lost the initial race to Newcastle, but financial prudence now gives way to desperation.
Despite Eddie Howe’s insistence that Isak is untouchable, the club’s wage bill and lack of Champions League revenue make retention a precarious affair.
A “gentleman’s agreement” reportedly allows Isak to depart if Newcastle miss top four, a scenario growing likelier as they trail Aston Villa by eight points.
And it seems Ian Wright feels that should the Swede have a choice in the summer, he will choose Liverpool:
“He’d probably go to Liverpool,” the pundit said on the latest episode of Stick to Football.
“I like to think that Arteta could convince him, but if we’re talking about Slot and the fact Slot doesn’t have his own team, that seems like it may be a more attractive proposition.”
For Liverpool, signing Isak after winning the Premier League title would be serious sign of intent for the rest of the league – that the Anfield side are not going rest on their laurels in 2025/26.
