Ibrahima Konate, whose current contract expires in June 2026, has been locked in extension talks with Liverpool since October 2024.
Despite the club’s initial confidence in finalizing a deal (as reported by Fabrizio Romano in December 2024), negotiations have stalled over personal terms.
When fit, Konate has been instrumental to Liverpool’s success this season.
However, his injury history—including a knee issue that sidelined him for all of December—is a con on the list that the Reds hierarchy will weigh up.
But all reports have suggested that the club are very keen to extend his deal.
Amid stalled progress, European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have intensified their monitoring of the situation, ready to pounce if the stalemate persists.
The club began talks with the France international before October last year.
The defender earns about £80,000 a week, and it is understood his representatives were seeking closer to £200,000 a week.
A prevailing theory among analysts and fans alike is that Konate is awaiting clarity on Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold before committing his future?
The trio’s contracts expire this summer, and their decisions could redefine Liverpool’s trajectory.
But despite all this concern, the club is still hopeful of ironing out terms with the Frenchman.
And now the Times have provided an update as to how much the Frenchman is looking for in his new deal:
“The club began talks with the France international before October last year,” journalist Hamzah Khalique-Loonat wrote.
“The defender earns about £80,000 a week, and it is understood his representatives were seeking closer to £200,000 a week.”
It would explain why contact talks have stalled, since the club is known for wanting to keep its wage structure under control.
But the Frenchman has grown into one of the finest defenders in global football since his 2021 transfer from RB Leipzig.
