Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is reportedly waiting until the end of the season to undergo talks over a new contract amid links to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old has been a key cog in the Reds defence as they sit 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League with 10 games remaining.

According to Le Parisien, the Reds have tabled a new deal for the French international - who is out of contract at the end of next season - but the central defender is said to be waiting to decide on his future.

The ECHO reported in October that Arne Slot's side were in talks over rewarding both Konate and Jarell Quansah with new and improved long-term deals.

Real are said to have a long-standing interest in Konate and remain in the hunt to prize him away from Anfield.

There have also been links with Paris Saint-Germain, but Get French Football News has reported that the Reds' European opponents have played down claims that they are pursuing the defender.

"It’s true, I’ve been offered a new contract by Liverpool," said Konaté in January.

But after, we’ll see what will happen."

The conversation around Liverpool has been dominated by the contract uncertainty surrounding their key players.

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all facing the prospect of leaving as free agents in the summer with their current deals expiring at the end of the season.

Yesterday, the ECHO revealed that Liverpool want to reward Conor Bradley for his ongoing progress with an improved new long-term contract.
