For the Merseyside club’s trip to PSV, the Dutch coach has left Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz in Liverpool ahead of the Reds’ trip to Bournemouth.

It was essential that Gravenberch, Van Dijk and Konate got a break from Liverpool action, and that is something Slot also felt was necessary.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday night, Slot explained that he chose to do this as it will benefit Liverpool going forward as that group of stars has already played a lot of minutes this season.

“These players are ready and all the players who were left behind could have played tomorrow,” Slot told the press.

“But in the long-term — so it doesn’t tell us anything about Saturday’s game — if you look back at our season, after four or five weeks, we gave them a break during the week if there was a moment to give them one.

We’ve always done it to keep them fresh.”

Liverpool travel to Bournemouth on Saturday before facing Tottenham in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final next Thursday, which comes before a crucial run of fixtures in the Premier League.

This decision could pay dividends down the line and Slot has explained what the players left home on Wednesday will do on Merseyside.

Many fans will wonder what the Liverpool players left out of the PSV clash will do on Wednesday and the stars have been given a crucial task from their manager, to rest.

Slot told the press that the players left at home have a day off on Wednesday before returning to training on Thursday morning.

“They will train on Thursday so a few staff members will go back home earlier on Thursday morning to train with the ones that stayed behind.”

The players capable that travelled to Eindhoven are more than capable of getting the draw the Liverpool need and if that happens, this situation will have played out beautifully for Slot.
