Former Liverpool defender Neil Ruddock has opened up about his significant weight loss journey, which he embarked on to save his life.

Ruddock, affectionately known as 'Razor' for his hardman image both on and off the pitch, enjoyed a five-season stint at Anfield but also turned out for Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham in a career spanning from 1986 to 2002.

"We live in a three-storey townhouse and I didn't go upstairs to the top floor for three years, too much hard work," said Ruddock.

Ruddock attributes his life-changing turnaround to his participation in the 2020 reality show Harry's Heroes.

"Without doing that TV show, I wouldn't be here today," said Ruddock, who was fitted with a pacemaker following the incident.

Motivated by The Only Way is Essex star James Argent's impressive weight loss, Ruddock decided to undergo gastric band surgery in May 2021.

Argent shed an incredible 13 stone after tipping the scales at 27 stone himself.

Ruddock has since had 70 per cent of his stomach removed, now likening its size to that of a baby's.
