Liverpool could still lose a number of players this summer despite keeping hold of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave for Real Madrid in what will be the most high profile departure of the off-season.

But it could be that Alexander-Arnold is not the only member of the Liverpool squad waving a tearful goodbye to Anfield on May 25th.

While Trent’s contract wrangling has rightly taken the headlines recently, a situation has also been quietly developing around Ibrahima Konate.

Konate has just one year left on his Liverpool contract and has seemingly been deadlocked in talks for a number of months.

And with rumours that Konate could leave starting to gather pace, journalist Fabrizio Romano has now given Liverpool supporters genuine reason to worry about their No.5.

Konate has been a key player for Arne Slot this season.

Despite beginning the season below Jarell Quansah in the pecking order, the Frenchman quickly regained his place and has kept it ever since.

Still yet to turn 26, Konate should be all set to earn mainstay status in the Liverpool defence for years to come.

And yet, there have long been suggestions that the France international has his eye on a return to his home city of Paris to play for PSG.

PSG look revitalised under Luis Enrique and are becoming a very attractive prospect for players across Europe.

With just one year left on his deal, the Liverpool man will be get-able at a lower than usual price.

Add into the mix that Liverpool are pushing ahead to sign Dean Huijsen, and all the ingredients are there for Konate’s exit this summer.

Reds supporters will be hoping that is not the case, with Ibou still having plenty to give.

The former RB Leipzig centre-back is a brilliant character to have around the team and his loss would be a big one for Slot and co to fill.

But the signs are starting to appear that this is a transfer that is becoming inevitable.

Liverpool can of course stop all of that by accepting Konate’s contract demands.
