'In reality': Liverpool player's father now shares how his son really feels about leaving, after exit rumours

Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool last summer, yet it hasn’t taken long for exit rumours to emerge.

The Italian international has struggled with fitness since making the move to the Premier League, with Chiesa arriving at Anfield with no pre-season training and carrying three years worth of injuries picked up during his time at Juventus.

As a result, the former ACF Fiorentina star’s minutes have been limited, though the winger has managed to show his quality with Chiesa scoring in last week’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium.

And heading into the summer, Chiesa’s father, former Serie A star Enrico Chiesa, has now shared if his son will be leaving Liverpool amid new reports that a return to Italy is on the cards.

Speaking to Tutto Sport, the former Parma star shot down any idea that Chiesa was unhappy at Liverpool, with the winger’s father saying that the Italy international is ‘doing great’ at Anfield.

With Chiesa spotted passionately cheering Liverpool on against PSG, the attacker has shown no visible signs of looking unwanted on Merseyside, and the winger’s father seems to agree with this observation.

Chiesa’s father said: “Federico is doing great in Liverpool, he is in a top club that is first in the league and now we hope they win the Premier League!

“Because, in reality, until he was 15 he didn’t play often and when he asked me: ‘What should I do?’ I told him to keep training, not to give up, to be ready when his time came.”

Liverpool knew what they were getting themselves into with the signing of Chiesa, with the winger virtually given the season to get back into shape and to prove himself as a player who can perform at Anfield.

And although Chiesa has had numerous setbacks, the winger’s performances, as limited as they have been, have been solid, with the attacker showing last week in the English capital just how crucial he could be in big games.

Indeed, next season will be a big one for Chiesa, and the Italian international knows that the 2025/26 campaign will be the one where he needs to step up and to prove himself to the team.
