Jamie Carragher has admitted he is growing increasingly confident Mohamed Salah will sign a new Liverpool contract following their social media back-and-forth.

The iconic Reds defender was the subject of a quip from the Egyptian while he was heading Sky Sports' coverage on Monday.

The 46-year-old has been outspoken on the situation regarding Liverpool's three key players; Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah, throughout their contract uncertainty as chiefs at Anfield face crunch talks, ensuring they don't leave at the end of their contracts, this summer.

Salah has been in formidable form for the Reds this term, topping the Premier League charts for goals and assists, as he sends a message to the Reds hierarchy that there is more that he can give - despite turning 33 in June.

The 32-year-old fired at Carragher after his latest comments on the future of the Liverpool record-breaker, joking that he may have an obsession with the Reds star man.

Speaking on Sky's Monday Night Football, the former defender hit back, he said: "I have got a Mo Salah obsession.

I don’t think it is the type of obsession he thinks it is.

"It’s a footballer obsession and watching him in a red shirt, but I come in, I get asked a question, I answer it as diplomatically as I possibly can.

"I think ‘I’m not going to criticise Mo Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold - I’m gonna rave about how Virgil van Dijk has handled it’.

I get myself in all kinds of trouble again!"

In recent months, while Alexander-Arnold has remained silent on his contract situation, both Salah and Van Dijk have expressed their intentions to stay on Merseyside.

However, following his continuous formidable form, the Egyptian has been forced to field contract questions after his match-winning performances.

More often than not, Salah has opted to pour cold water on positive contract talks with the underlining message that the two parties are apart in their extension talks.

However, Carragher views the latest interaction with the forward as a positive sign and believes it points to a positive concluded.

He added: “I’ll just say on the Mo Salah tweet there, that does give me a little bit more confidence that he’s going to sign.
