Following this she was invited to join the Foundation’s Board of Trustees alongside the club’s chairman, the then CEO and other Trustees.
Since 2014, the Foundation has hosted eight Legends charity matches and raised over £8.5million in funding, all of which has been invested in tailored, purpose driven community programmes to support young people and families in need.
In 2020, Black was invited by Mike Gordon, President of Reds owners Fenway Sports Group, to join him and club CEO, Billy Hogan to form the new board of directors for LFC Women where she led the Board’s strategic decision-making which resulted in the team being promoted back to the Women’s Super League; saw increased investment into LFC Women and the girls Pro Game Academy; enhanced club support to promote the teams; oversaw the reacquisition and return of AXA Melwood as the Women’s first team and Pro Game Academy training ground and was responsible for the appointment of the club’s first female ambassador.
“On behalf of the entire club, I would like to express my gratitude for Susan’s years of dedication and leadership across our Communications, LFC Women, and LFC Foundation functions,” said Hogan.
“She has played a pivotal role in all three areas alongside her role as one of the long-standing members of our Executive team, and we thank her for her expertise and commitment.
We wish her well for the future and she will always be welcome at Anfield.”
Black arrived at Liverpool at a time when Sir Kenny Dalglish was in the dugout and was responsible for the communications team for the hiring and departure of Brendan Rodgers, as well as the arrival of Jurgen Klopp back in 2016.
Commenting on her impending departure, Black said: “It really has been a great privilege to work for this incredible football club over the last 14 years.
“We are blessed at LFC to have so many incredibly talented, gifted and professional individuals who work together to ensure our club goes from strength to strength.
I am moving on but in the knowledge that the building blocks that are in place are strong and fit for the future.”
Craig Evans, vice president of communications at Liverpool who arrived at the club shortly after Black in 2011, will be stepping up into the role of senior vice-president of communications from June 1, 2025.
