Liverpool have pulled themselves back from the brink over the past couple of weeks as they begin to finally tick off some new contracts.
The rapidly ending deals of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have dominated headlines throughout the season.
Happily, Van Dijk and Salah are now boxed off and although Alexander-Arnold looks likely to leave, Liverpool have seemingly done all they could have to prevent that, too.
But those three players are not the beginning and end of Liverpool’s contract problems just now.
Although no further members of the Liverpool squad could depart for free this summer, 2026 brings an end to Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Caoimhin Kelleher’s terms.
Given his age and importance to the team, Konate is the most pressing issue.
And as rumours continue that Konate could leave Liverpool this summer, journalist David Lynch has provided a somewhat concerning update.

Konate has mostly stayed fit this season to become a mainstay of the Liverpool defence under Arne Slot.
There was brief period in the winter when the Frenchman sat out for a month or so, but otherwise he has been solid as a rock next to Van Dijk.

As a result of his good performances, there have been suggestions that Konate wants to more than double his wages if he is to renew with Liverpool.
And speaking on Anfield Index, Lynch says the noises he has been hearing recently on the centre-back signing new terms are not especially positive.

“We’re not getting great encouragement at the moment in terms of his contract negotiations,” he says.
“Maybe that PSG interest is turning his head, but it’s just another thing Liverpool are going to have to do this summer.
A little bit of a concern I would say going into the summer but there’s still time to sort it out so we’ll see if there’s any movement on that.”
Part of the reason fans have been growing concerned about Konate is due to the rumours of Liverpool stepping up interest in Dean Huijsen.
There is a slight worry that Huijsen could be brought in as a replacement ‘one in, one out’ for Konate rather than as an understudy to him.
But although Lynch suggested that there was not especially good news to report on Konate, he did say that he expects one in one out anyway at Anfield, with Joe Gomez in line to leave.
“I think it would have to be one in one out regardless to be honest, because a lot of the centre-half need is based on Joe Gomez departing this summer which is something I expect to happen,” he says.
