'It was strange': Plymouth boss Miron Muslic makes new claim about 'idol' Arne Slot after beating Liverpool

Liverpool are licking their wounds after being beaten by Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Reds were heavy favourites to see off bottom-of-the-Championship Argyle, but were left to rue an undercooked performance at Home Park.

At the end of the day, Plymouth and their manager Miron Muslic deserved enormous credit for a resolute display.

And although Liverpool were far, far from full strength on the day, it was still an historic achievement for the Pilgrims.

Muslic had talked up Arne Slot before the game, admitting he had been to watch and study Slot’s Feyenoord while in charge at Cercle Brugge.

And having no doubt enjoyed his evening on Sunday, Muslic was back live on Sky Sports to speak about the Liverpool head coach once again the morning after.

Muslic has not been in charge at Plymouth long having replaced Wayne Rooney as manager in January.

There’s little doubt that Liverpool would have stood a much better chance against Rooney’s team even with a weakened side out.

Having beaten one of his coaching inspirations so early into his time with the club, though, Muslic told Sky how it felt to be stood next to Slot on the touchline.

“No doubt a big moment because he’s simply a coach I admire,” said the 42-year-old.

“He’s just a complete coach, dominating every part in every phase of the game and that’s why he’s leading one of the best clubs in the world and that’s why he’s also leading the best club in the world right now.

“So, a big, big idol and it was strange having him two or three metres next to me!”

Plymouth deserve to celebrate their victory over Liverpool however they want.

They have had a tough couple of seasons with this year being especially bad.

The FA Cup has provided them a chink of light in that respect and it was a big moment to beat the side top of the Premier League table.

Nevertheless, this is not a non-league or a League Two side we are talking about.

Plymouth have spent a large part of their history in the second division.

They are a hugely historic club.

There is no need to over-egg a pudding that amounts to beating a third-string Liverpool team on a major off day.

Muslic should enjoy the moment, but we’re not sure there’s a need for all the interviews.

If it ends in relegation for Plymouth, it will have meant little.
