The Athletic’s James Pearce has dismissed claims that Liverpool have sealed contract renewals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but are keeping them secret amid Trent Alexander-Arnold’s uncertain situation.
Liverpool have yet to resolve the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah, with just over three months left on their deals.
While there is hope that the duo of Salah and Van Dijk will renew their contracts at the club, the same can’t be said of Alexander-Arnold, who appears to be edging closer to a move to Real Madrid.
The England right-back has reportedly agreed to join Los Blancos on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Salan and Van Dijk had signed their Liverpool deals, waiting for the club to secure the deal for Alexander-Arnold before making public their own deal.
However, speaking on the Walk On podcast, James Pearce revealed that theories suggesting the deals for Salah and Van Dijk are already done and dusted were way out of order.
He said: “As we’ve said many times, this school of thought that Van Dijk and Salah’s new deals are all done and dusted and just tucked in a drawer away somewhere because they didn’t want to put pressure on Trent is just…
“Numerous people who would know have told me that that is absolute nonsense?
I think it’s fair to say that, if there’d been a positive resolution, we would know about it, because they’d be shouting it from the rooftops.”
Meanwhile, Egyptian outlet Masrawy recently reported that the contract talks between Liverpool and Salah are heading in the right direction.
They claim that the exit of Alexander-Arnold will help free up funds in the wage budget for Liverpool’s No.11.
Furthermore, it’s asserted that negotiations with agent Ramy Abbas are more positive than they have ever been.
