Liverpool could be in for major change this transfer window.
The club will be heading into the summer in a position that could be argued as positive and negative.
Premier League glory is within reach, but uncertainty surrounding several players at the club could lead to a squad revamp.
Trent Alexander-Arnold seems destined for the sun of Madrid, whilst Salah and Van Dijk’s contracts are yet to be sorted out.
Caoimhin Kelleher is another departure that has been discussed, with the imminent arrival of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili potentially forcing the Ireland international out of the club, despite several heroic performances during his time at Liverpool.
Now, Darwin Nunez has started to generate transfer interest, as another frustrating season at Liverpool reaches its latter stages.
James Pearce has waded in on the conversation, stating that he’d be ‘stunned’ if Nunez was still at Anfield next season.
Pearce said: “I would expect Liverpool to be signing a centre-forward this summer.
You know, I would be amazed if Darwin Nunez was still at Anfield come the start of the season.”
“It’s going to be interesting to see whether the Saudi interest raises its head again regarding Nunez.
We know that an intermediary contacted Liverpool in January to find out if a deal is possible and Liverpool were adamant that it was a straight no.”
Many will have mixed feelings about the Uruguyan departing Liverpool.
Despite his struggles in front of goal, the ability that the South American possesses is clear to see.
His speed, strength and size could see him eventually blossom into a world-class striker.
The club broke the bank for Nunez ahead of the 2022/23 season, splashing £85 million on a player that was meant to be the focal point of their attack for years to come.
However, excitement and confidence in the signing quickly dwindled as Nunez struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
Darwin Nunez was bought in the same summer that Manchester City acquired the services of Erling Haaland, and the difference in both players’ quality was quickly realised.
In the seasons that have followed, Nunez has continuously frustrated fans, with confusion building as to why he hasn’t reached the same heights for Liverpool that he did with Benfica.
Maybe Nunez will stay, and will turn his Liverpool future around, but that is looking unlikely, as this chapter of the Uruguayan’s seems to be reaching its conclusion.
