Jamie Carragher admitted Liverpool were "battered" by Newcastle as they won the Carabao Cup, claiming their first piece of major silverware since 1969.
Dan Burn and Alexander Isak scored the goals as Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1, with Federico Chiesa scoring a late consolation for the Reds.
"Newcastle didn't just win, they battered Liverpool," Carragher said on Sky Sports.
"Liverpool were poor vs PSG and Newcastle are a good Premier League team but they have wiped the floor with them.
"I am gutted Liverpool didn't win but if there was any team you'd want to win, it is probably Newcastle." In the process, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe became the first Englishman to win a major domestic trophy in England since Harry Redknapp's FA Cup triumph with Portsmouth in 2008 and the 47-year-old was delighted with the victory.
