Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on the It's Called Soccer podcast, February 2025
Jamie Carragher has revealed his excitement at how Arne Slot can reshape a Liverpool squad who could be Premier League champions this summer.
And the legendary former Reds defender believes the current leaders are primed to move past Manchester United's record of 20 titles in the coming years under their current boss.
Liverpool moved 13 points clear of second-placed Arsenal on Wednesday night courtesy of a 2-0 win at home to Newcastle United, which was confirmed shortly after Mikel Arteta's Gunners had been held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest earlier that evening.
With 10 games left now to negotiate, Slot's side are overwhelming favourites for a first league crown in five years and Carragher reckons his former club will be well poised to move beyond their arch-rivals United once they are equal on 20 at the end of the campaign.

Speaking before Wednesday night's game on the It's Called Soccer podcast with United legend Gary Neville, Carragher says: "I never felt that we would ever get close to Manchester United in terms of the Premier League.
"You know, we're talking about a competition we've still only won once.
I know it's the [former] First Division but in terms of the Premier League era, if we think Liverpool are going to win it, it's still only twice in the Premier League and to think we'd have a chance sort of next season to go on and maybe go above Manchester United..
"And that's why, I'll be honest, I get a lot of stick on social media - for lots of different reasons!
- but some of that is people thinking I am a spokesperson for (Liverpool owners) FSG.
"I've got no relationship whatsoever with anyone at Liverpool Football Club because of the job I do and at times I might have to be critical.
"But what they have done, and this is why I am not critical of them, what they have done, to get us level with Manchester United..."
Carragher adds: "And actually, I was in the gym this morning talking to a few of the lads who go to the game and I think the start of next season will be the first time I will ever predict Liverpool to win the league at the start of the season.
"Because I really do believe next season they will win the league again and the reason I say that is Arne Slot will know that squad and team and players so much more basically than he did 12 months ago.
"And he also knows their deficiencies in the squad and he hasn't bought a player, a proper player yet.
"So I am almost excited thinking this guy is going to look at the team and think this is the team that has won the league, it's only lost one game all season, and I think I can improve [it].
"Not just by bringing in players and they can fill in, just go bang, bang, bang, three players straight in the starting XI and that's even before I add a little around the squad.
"That is what excites me.
So yes, great to get level with Manchester United, which we think will happen, but I think Liverpool have got a real opportunity in the summer.

"What's happened with Manchester City, it's a big drop off.
I still think City will come back next season - but questions about Arsenal, questions about everyone who doesn't win the league.
"But I think Liverpool are in a really strong position to try and kick on over the next couple of years under Slot and that excites me as much as anything and going level with United.
"I think there is a real opportunity for Liverpool to go above Manchester United in league titles over the next few years."
