Liverpool fans have been holding their breath for months as the futures of two of their star players,
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, hung in the balance.
Both players have been pivotal to the team’s success in recent seasons, helping secure titles, top-four finishes, and thrilling performances on the field.
As the summer transfer window approached, rumors swirled about potential moves or contract negotiations, leaving supporters wondering about the stability of the squad.
Now, with both players having signed new deals, Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
But what does this mean for the club going forward?
Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool legend, spoke candidly about the impact these extensions will have, not just on the team, but on the entire Premier League.
He explained that the signings of Salah and Van Dijk were not just beneficial for Liverpool but served as a blow to every other team in the league.
“It’s not just a boost for Liverpool; it’s a knock for everybody else,” Carragher stated, reflecting on the significance of keeping two of the league’s best players.
“And it’s not just Virgil van Dijk, it’s Mo Salah.”
“For me, they’ve been the best two players in the Premier League this season.”
He further emphasized how important these contract extensions are for Liverpool’s title ambitions next season.
Carragher pointed out that if Salah and Van Dijk weren’t playing, Liverpool wouldn’t be seen as favorites, even though they are the reigning champions.
“So you start next season, if you’re the challengers to Liverpool and those two aren’t playing, there’s no way Liverpool start the season, even though the champions, as favorites,” he added.
Carragher also reminded everyone that Liverpool still has areas to improve.
Despite the excitement around retaining Salah and Van Dijk, he acknowledged that there are still aspects of the team that need work, especially at right-wing and center-back positions.
“Liverpool, even though they’re going to win the title, they’ve still got areas where they can improve in this team,” he said.
“They didn’t need to sort of improve right wing or center back this summer—that’s been kicked out for a couple of years.”
For Liverpool, the confirmation of Salah and Van Dijk’s new contracts is a massive step forward.
It not only strengthens their current squad but also sends a message to the rest of the Premier League that Liverpool’s two most influential players will continue to lead the charge for years to come.
