Jamie Carragher tore into VAR and James Tarkowski during the Merseyside derby(Image: Sky Sports)
A furious Jamie Carragher tore into VAR referee Paul Tierney for failing to send James Tarkowski off following a review on the defender's horror tackle in the Merseyside derby before calling out the Everton star over his actions.
Tarkowski was only shown a yellow card by referee Samuel Barrot after the challenge, which came early in the second half.
The call was checked by VAR, who decided not to intervene on the basis that Tarkowski had 'played the ball' during his clash with Alexis Mac Allister, who was left in agony on the turf.

But Carragher, covering the game for Sky Sports, let rip at half time, condemning both Barrot and Tierney for allowing Tarkowski to escape without a red card.
The former Liverpool man said: "We'll talk about VAR but the referee, Sam Barrot, he's in a brilliant position - he should give that on the pitch.
It's an awful tackle and we know Tarkowski knows what he's doing there.
Terrible decision."

"Most would say he’s got the ball, but he knew exactly what he was doing, Tarkowski," said Neville on Sky Sports.
"Mac Allister was there, [Tarkowski was] doing an old-fashioned follow-through - take the lot.
