Jamie Carragher has named the signing he feels would hand Liverpool the Premier League title.

The mood among Liverpool supporters has turned increasingly anxious despite the club sitting atop both the Premier League and Champions League tables, as frustration mounts over the lack of January transfer activity.

Fan sentiment on social media platforms has reached boiling point, with many expressing concerns about the club’s apparent reluctance to strengthen from a position of power.

The anxiety has been amplified by Arsenal’s reported advanced talks for long-term Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi.

Richard Hughes and the recruitment team appear to be taking an “opportunistic” approach to the window, with no concrete targets identified.

This stance has particularly irked fans given Liverpool’s strong position in all four competitions and the opportunity to build on their impressive first half of the season.

Additionally, memories of last season are still fresh in the minds of many – with Jurgen Klopp’s side just running of steam in a key part of the title run-in.

The transfer frustration has been compounded by the ongoing contract situations of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

All three key players are now free to discuss pre-contract arrangements with foreign clubs, adding another layer of anxiety to an already tense January window.

What did Jamie Carragher say about the transfer window?

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, the former Liverpool man urged his club to sign a left-sided fullback who can also double as a defender.

He asserts that this is something that the other title challengers have, and with how many goals Arne Slot’s side have been conceding of late  – it’s a transfer that would make sense:

“I think if Liverpool haven’t got a player that every other club has, it’s a left-sided defender who can play centre-back or left-back,” Carragher said.

“So Arsenal have got Calafiori, even United have got Martinez, Chelsea have got Colwill, City have got Nathan Ake and Gvardiol all.

Liverpool need, I’ve said this for a long time, they need a left-sided defender who can sort of do a little bit of both stature, presence and just a bit more power.

“That’s my only, I think if Liverpool sign that player in January.

“Nothing’s been linked, but it’s crying out for?

I think if Liverpool did that, I’d be almost certain that they’d win the league.”

Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez has been linked with the club, with a big claim coming out on Wednesday evening that the Hungarian is keen on a switch to Liverpool.
