Jamie Carragher mocked suggestions that Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world, as he said the Argentinean is "nowhere near" Liverpool No.1 Alisson.
Martinez has emerged as a prominent goalkeeper on the world stage in recent years, notably on the international scene, helping Argentina to win the World Cup in 2022 as well as the Copa America in both 2021 and 2024.
He has claimed a series of individual awards in recent years too, including the Yashin Trophy — which is effectively the Ballon d'Or for goalkeepers — in 2022 and 2023, while he also won The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper award in 2022 and 2024.

"Why do people keep saying that Emi Martinez is the best goalie in the world?" Carragher said on Sky Sports, to which Gary Neville responded: "I think he's very good, I like him."
Carragher said: "I know, but he's not the best goalie in the world.
It's because Argentina won the World Cup but he's not the best goalie in the world
He wouldn't be playing for Aston Villa if he's the best goalie in the world
He just wouldn't be."
Neville and Roy Keane then mentioned that Peter Schmeichel had said that Martinez was the best goalkeeper in the world, to which Carragher said: "I don't care if Peter Schmeichel likes him
Please people stop saying he's the best goalie in the world — he's a good goalie, but he's not the best goalkeeper in the world."
