Jamie Carragher has identified three positions Liverpool must strengthen ahead of next season.

The Reds might be closing in on their 20th Premier League title, but that will not stop the club from financially backing Arne Slot, who inherited Jurgen Klopp's squad last year.

Slot’s debut season has been nothing short of remarkable, made all the more impressive by the Dutchman’s instant impact on English football - despite inheriting a squad he didn’t build himself.

Federico Chiesa was the Reds’ only summer signing, but he’s made just three Premier League appearances - all as a substitute.

With Slot already admitting the club are assessing 'every single position' ahead of the summer, Carragher has shared his own thoughts on the types of players his former side may need to bring in.

Speaking to Sky Bet, Carragher said: "If you look at Liverpool this season – this is not the manager's squad, it is Jurgen Klopp's.

Arne Slot doesn’t trust the squad.

"When people talk about Liverpool at the end of the season, their style during the winter is not the same and is not consistent like the rest of the season.

Slot plays the same players every week.

"We don’t know if that’s his way of play, but we will probably find out next season.

"If Ibrahima Konate or Virgil Van Dijk got injured, who would come in at the back really?

"They have Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez, who is injury prone.

Liverpool need another centre-back to really push Konate.

"The same also applies in central midfield with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

"I think three positions, straight into the team left-back, attacking midfielder and centre-forward while left-wing, centre-back and centre-midfield, they could be players really pushing."
