Jamie Carragher has compared Virgil van Dijk to both Thierry Henry and Roy Keane after his match-winning goal for Liverpool against West Ham.
Van Dijk struck late on to secure a 2-1 win for Liverpool that leaves the Reds on the verge of the Premier League title.
Arne Slot’s side is now a maximum of just six points away from being crowned as champion, and they could win it all as early as this weekend if Arsenal loses its game at Ipswich.
Although he grabbed the winner against West Ham, it could have ended up being a frustrating day for Van Dijk, with the Liverpool captain taking a lot of the blame for the visitors’ equalizer at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk celebrates his winner against West Ham United that moved Liverpool within six points of the Premier League title.
Discussing Van Dijk’s reaction with Arsenal legend Henry on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “I think he felt guilty, and I think it was almost something that you would do, but you’re a striker, where he’s like ‘I’m going to win this game, I’ve got to win the game for the team.’
“I think he was that angry with the mistake he was involved with that he was like ‘I’m going to fix this, I’m not having this, we’re winning this game, and we’re going to go on and win this Premier League title.’”
Carragher then showed clips of Van Dijk trying to make his presence felt over the next few minutes of the game, including a moment when stayed up front as West Ham threatened to break away from a corner
“That’s when you think about great captains, and I always think of moments, you probably think of Roy Keane in that game away at Juventus - ‘I’m going to get this header to get us back in the game,’ Carragher added.
“That was watching a proper captain’s performance
That was a special three or four minutes from a special player.”
Van Dijk looks set to have more to celebrate soon, with the defender expected to follow Mohamed Salah’s lead by signing a new contract at Liverpool - although he remained coy when asked whether an announcement might be made soon.
"I told you last week that there was progress, so we'll see," Van Dijk said when speaking to reporters after Sunday’s game.
