Jarell Quansah has had a season full of challenges and growth.
The 22-year-old started the campaign struggling for minutes and form.
In the opening-day win over Ipswich, he was subbed off at halftime.
Since then, he has worked hard to earn the trust of Arne Slot and his coaching staff.
Recently, injuries have forced Liverpool to use him in an unfamiliar right-back role.
Slot first suggested the idea before a game against Manchester City, telling him he had the “attributes and qualities” to play there.
It was a big adjustment, but Quansah took it in stride.
Beyond his positional change, the defender has had to learn quickly.
Every young player makes mistakes, but not all have someone like Virgil van Dijk to guide them through it.
Quansah has now revealed just how important Van Dijk’s influence has been.
Jarell Quansah reveals what Virgil van Dijk does to him “on a day-to-day basis”
Speaking about the Liverpool captain in a recent interview, he said, “He’s lived my career.”
“He’s been a young centre-half, made mistakes, and reached the pinnacle, the very top of football, and been one of the best centre-halves that we’ve ever seen.”
Van Dijk’s experience means he understands exactly what Quansah is going through.
The Dutchman has taken an active role in helping him develop.
“He can resonate with me a lot and everything he can do to help me he’s trying to do and I’m grateful for that.”
The guidance is constant but never forced.
Quansah explained, “On a day-to-day basis, he’s always talking to me.”
“It’s not like a schedule!”
“But when he needs to, he does, and it’s always valuable information that I take from him.”
With Van Dijk’s support and his own hard work, Quansah is preparing for his biggest test yet – a Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
