PSG midfielder Joao Neves was bullish in his preview of the clash vs Liverpool this evening in the Champions League.

The 19-year-old  has made a remarkable impact in his debut season with Paris Saint-Germain after completing his high-profile transfer from Benfica in August 2024 – with the French side making the sizeable investment of €60 million plus €10 million in potential add-ons.

The Portuguese international has been key to PSG’s commanding position in Ligue 1, where they currently enjoy a 16-point advantage over Marseille.

Under Luis Enrique’s guidance, the Parisians have evolved into one of Europe’s most exciting teams, playing positionally fluid football that has yielded remarkable results.

They are currently riding an unbeaten streak of 22 matches since their 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on November 266.

Their progression through the Champions League has been less straightforward than Liverpool’s, finishing 16th in the league phase, but their form has improved dramatically as the season has progressed.

And it seems this run of form has bolstered the confidence of the ranks at the Parc Des Prince.

Speaking in his pre-Liverpool press conference, Joao Neves believes that while the Reds have excellent individuals, his side is better as a team:

“We will aim to deny them possession and maintain control of the ball as much as possible.”

“Yes, they possess significant individual talent similar to us, but I firmly believe we are better as a collective.

That’s the beauty of football; it’s a team sport, and at this moment, our team stands out.”

He added on the Reds’ attacking threat:

“I believe the most effective way to defend against them is by having possession of the ball,” explained.

“We can defend with the ball, which is one of our strongest strategies.”

“We excel at maintaining ball control and will strive to implement our style of play on the ground, utilizing our movements and quality — that’s how we operate.”

Both teams boast an array of attacking talent capable of deciding the tie.

For PSG, Ousmane Dembélé has been the standout performer this season, stepping up remarkably since Mbappé’s departure.

The French winger is having the best individual season of his career with 26 goals and 6 assists across all competitions.

Another player to watch is Bradley Barcola as the 22-year-old French sensation has contributed 17 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season.
