Joe Gomez confirmed he suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's 5-0 win at West Ham United.
The center-back was withdrawn during the first half of the match at the London Stadium after clutching the back of his leg shortly after the half-hour mark.
There was no contact between Gomez and any other player, which quickly suggested that the problem was a muscular one, and he was replaced by Jarell Quansah for the remainder of the match.
Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele posted on X that he had spoken to Gomez after the match and revealed that the defender had confirmed the nature of his injury.
He added Gomez 'doesn’t know how severe until scans' but appeared in 'good spirits'.
Gomez, who barely featured under Arne Slot during the first few months of the season, started in all eight of Liverpool's fixtures in December after Ibrahima Konate sustained a knee injury during a match against Real Madrid at the end of November.
The injury to Gomez is understandably concerning to Liverpool considering Konate is yet to return, and the Reds now only have Virgil van Dijk and Quansah as senior center-back options heading into the new year.
Liverpool head coach Slot addressed Gomez's injury after the match, telling Sky Sports: “You saw today an injury of Joe Gomez.
In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going take a while before he is back.
Slot was asked about when Konate and fellow injured defender Conor Bradley could return to the squad after the Boxing Day win against Leicester.
Slot confirmed that neither man would be available for the trip to West Ham, but suggested that both players would have more of a chance of being available for the visit of Manchester United on January 5, although he would offer no guarantees.
"They will not be back for West Ham United," Slot said.
"Then there is a week in between (before the match against Manchester United).
