It remains to be seen what become of Jordan Henderson at Ajax with just few days to the end of the January transfer window.

The former Liverpool captain’s potential move away from the Dutch club has exploded into life in the final days of this January transfer window.

The 34-year-old, who joined Ajax just over a year ago from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq, has made 31 appearances for the Amsterdam club without scoring.

However, he has contributed several assists and has offered his leadership as the club’s captain.

Currently sitting second in the Eredivisie, Ajax views Henderson’s experience as crucial for their title chase with PSV Eindhoven.

However, Henderson could be on the move before the window closes.

Fabrizio Romano earlier reported that Henderson was in advanced talks to leave Ajax.

The Italian journalist asserted that Ligue 1 side Monaco were “closing in on a deal” for Henderson, with a permanent move allegedly agreed until June 2026.

But Dutch newspaper De Telegraph offered new details on the transfer story, claiming that Ajax has informed Monaco that there is no talk about a departure of Jordan Henderson this winter.

But while the transfer tussle between the player and the two clubs continues to rumble, Ajax’s latest move on Thursday suggests that they have made a decision on Henderson.

What did Ajax do about Jordan Henderson?

Henderson was named the captain of Ajax shortly after joining from Al-Ettifaq last year.

The Englishman has grown into a pivotal figure both on and off the pitch during his brief time in the Dutch capital.

However, it seems his desire to leave Ajax has cost him his captaincy at the club, as he was stripped of the armband in Ajax’s Europa League match against Galatasaray.

Henderson was named in the starting XI for the match against the Turkish giants?

However, unlike in former times, he did not captain the side, with goalkeeper Remko Pasveer chosen to lead the side in place of the 34-year-old.

It is unknown if Ajax is punishing the former Liverpool captain or if the decision was purely for sporting reasons.
