Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has delivered a foul-mouthed appraisal of the 2-0 defeat to Everton in his final Merseyside Derby.

The German’s X-rated rant over losing to the Blues came in the final episode of Doubters to Believers: Liverpool FC: The Klopp Era, which showcases on Amazon Prime from Friday.

Klopp, who was Reds boss from October 2015 to May 2024, had not been beaten by Everton in front of fans in 15 previous meetings with his only previous loss being by the same scoreline at a behind closed doors Anfield due to the global coronavirus pandemic on February 21.

The 57-year-old accepted a Football Association misconduct charge and fine for running into the centre circle to celebrate with goalkeeper Alisson after Divock Origi’s stoppage time derby winner in December 2018, while also getting himself into a heated exchanged with a ball boy at Goodison Park after a goalless draw later that season who is understood to have asked him if he enjoyed the “World Cup final” after Klopp had claimed the fixture had such magnitude in Evertonians’ eyes when previewing a Liverpool game with Manchester United.

The Times reports that the scars of being defeated by Everton in his last derby – the Reds arrived just three points off the summit but ended the night with home fans singing: “You lost the league at Goodison Park” – remain fresh though with Klopp’s mask slipping when asked what was going through his mind before the game.

Currently employed as head of global soccer for Red Bull, Klopp said: “Now I have to go back to the f***ing Everton game which I have tried hard to get out of my mind and tell you what I thought before this f***ing game.

And it was probably all wrong because we played as s*** as we did.”

The victory on April 24 last year was one of three at Goodison Park in a week for Sean Dyche’s side, in between the Blues’ 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest and 1-0 success against Brentford with the latter result securing their Premier League status.
