After stepping away from Liverpool’s dugout last summer, Jurgen Klopp has been quietly reshaping his career at Red Bull – but has now been linked to a surprise role at a European giant.
Since assuming his role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer on January 1, 2025, Klopp went on a tour of the company’s worldwide football network.
Operating from his bases in Wiesbaden and Mallorca, the charismatic German has been working alongside Football Director Mario Gomez to oversee strategic development rather than day-to-day operations.
Klopp’s global tour began in Brazil with a visit to RB Bragantino in São Paulo, where he engaged with technical staff and reviewed football operations.
He then traveled to the United States, to see the New York Red Bulls.
He finished off his journey will continue with a scheduled mid-February visit to newly-promoted Japanese side Omiya Ardija, recently acquired by the Red Bull group.
Paris FC, competing in France’s Ligue 2, is also reportedly a project that the German will also oversee.
While Klopp implements his vision across Red Bull’s football portfolio, storm clouds have gathered over Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu?
After a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, questions about the Italian’s future have intensified.
For months, former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso appeared the natural successor to Ancelotti, having impressed with his management of Bayer Leverkusen.
However, recent inconsistency in Leverkusen’s form has reportedly prompted Madrid’s leadership to reconsider their options.
According to Spanish outlet Diario Sport, influential figures close to Florentino Perez are now advocating for Klopp’s appointment, viewing the German coach as someone who could make an immediate impact at the club next season.
What makes Klopp particularly appealing to Madrid’s decision-makers is his proven track record working with elite talent, something that could prove crucial in getting the best from Vinicius and Mbappe– a partnership Ancelotti has struggled to optimize.
If appointed, Klopp would reportedly demand defensive reinforcements, according to the report.
Despite his comfortable position at Red Bull, which includes an exit clause specifically for the German national team role, it seems some still feel that he will return to management.
Nevertheless, it does feel like a bit of a longshot to see the Liverpool legend managing Real Madrid, and it’s likely something just being touted in the Spanish media space.
