With Jurgen Klopp being linked with a return to management, he could be set to replace one of his greatest friends in soccer.

The former Liverpool boss is being touted for a sensational return to the touchline less than a year after leaving Anfield.

Reports suggest that Klopp is on Real Madrid’s shortlist amid claims that the Spanish giant will part ways with Carlo Ancelotti soon.

Real could be set to replace the Italian after their exit from the Champions League at the hands of Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s side easing into the semi-finals after a 2-1 win at the Bernabeu completed a comprehensive 5-1 victory on aggregate.

The 57-year-old took up a new role as Red Bull’s director of global soccer in January, although recent reports have suggested he may already be looking at stepping aside.

And, according to UOL, a return to management could be on the cards, with Klopp said to be willing to negotiate with Los Blancos.

Giving his thoughts on Ancelotti’s Everton side back in 2020, Klopp said: “Top team, top manager.

And Klopp was equally effusive of Ancelotti when Liverpool came up against his Real Madrid side in the 2022 Champions League final, which the Spanish side would go on to win in Paris.

"He is one of the best people you can ever meet, fantastic company, and we have a really good relationship,” Klopp said.

"It had a bit of a break when he was at Everton because we both respected this part of the business too much otherwise we would have gone out for dinner a couple of times."

Despite his links to the Real job, Klopp has already suggested he wouldn’t be interested in making the move to Madrid - or a return to management at all.

"The last thing I am thinking about actually is to be a manager again," Klopp said last month.
