Liverpool are looking ahead to what could be a busy summer transfer window.
The Reds still have days remaining in which to do some business during the January market, but it would be a real surprise if they take that chance.
Instead, as Arne Slot told BBC Sport on Tuesday, Liverpool are preparing to bolster their squad at the end of the season.
“I do know in the background we are definitely working on strengthening in the summer,” said the Liverpool head coach.
While there are various key areas of the team which look like they need work, it is worth tracking some named transfer targets in an attempt to predict what Liverpool will do.
One player who has been reported to be of big interest to Slot in particular is PSG’s Xavi Simons, on-loan at RB Leipzig.

Simons is probably not the player Liverpool fans would most like to see targeted this summer.
Nevertheless, there have been reports that Slot has a ‘good connection’ with Simons and sees him as a potential fit for his system.

With Harvey Elliott struggling to make an impression on the Dutch coach, maybe he sees his countryman as being a more natural option.
But according to German outlet BILD on Thursday, Simons is set to move permanently from PSG to Leipzig in a whopping £67m package.

The 21-year-old has reportedly joined for an initial £42m fee, with £25m in add-ons sweetening the deal for the Parisians.
With Klopp at the helm as Head of Global Soccer, Red Bull have just secured the most expensive deal in their history.
Although this may come as a slight blow to Slot’s transfer plans, there does appear to be a sting in the tail.
According to BILD, Leipzig and Simons have an agreement that if a suitable offer comes in for him during the summer, then it will be considered.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano corroborates this, claiming on X that the Netherlands international will be ‘ definitely one to watch’ at the end of the campaign.
Given the high value of the transfer with PSG, it seems probable that any further deal would exceed £50m at the very least.
With Liverpool needing to prioritise strengthening other areas, spending that kind of amount on Simons would not feel prudent.
So, while Jurgen and co may not have him for too much longer after all, it seems as though the sheer size of this deal will end Liverpool’s interest.
