As a section of the Liverpool fanbase grow increasingly frustrated at the Reds’ lack of summer transfer business to date, it is worth reminding ourselves of one Jurgen Klopp message to supporters and his would-be successor.

"We've said it a few times that the future does not look too bad,” Klopp reminded onlookers after a youthful side followed up victory over Chelsea in the League Cup final by beating Southampton in the FA Cup back in February.

“But maybe the people don’t forget it when the transfer window opens.

?

“We have a couple of pretty promising players already, so don’t close the door for them with 12 signings.”

Meanwhile in May, he would reiterate his belief in the squad Klopp would leave behind in what was a further ringing endorsement of the club’s academy talents.

It’s just the start, they can make the next steps.”

Last season was a year to remember for the Reds’ academy, with the aforementioned League Cup final win over Chelsea - featuring nine graduates and starlets in the matchday squad - a particular highlight.

?

Klopp would call upon 18 academy players, and while that included Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Caoimhin Kelleher and Harvey Elliott, who had long since graduated to the first team, the bulk was made up of recent graduates enjoying breakthrough seasons, like Jarell Quansah or Conor Bradley, or fledgling academy starlets.

The academy has recently served Liverpool well, with the Reds saving themselves millions by turning to Quansah and Bradley as internal solutions at centre-back and right-back last season.

While critics use it as a stick to beat a supposed ‘tight-fisted’ FSG with, you cannot overlook the fact that the club are now producing a number of talents that have a genuine chance of forging first team careers.

While not as shiny or exciting as a £50m+ new arrival, promoting from within is completely the right thing to do from a club point of view if the talents at your disposal are good enough.

?

As Klopp pointed out, the new Liverpool regime don’t need a plethora of new signings as a result - despite the ongoing frustration in the fanbase at a lack of business.

Beyond him, perhaps Amara Nallo one day follows in such footsteps when the time comes for an ageing Virgil van Dijk to pass on the baton.

?

While Liverpool could be in the market for a new long-term successor for Mohamed Salah, the likes of Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon will also look to stake their own claims to one day claim that right-wing berth.

In midfield, it’s perhaps make-or-break time for Tyler Morton when it comes to deciding his long-term Liverpool future this summer.

Transfer figures might stand at six figures instead of eight, but Liverpool are playing the long time and repeatedly executing such a strategy to perfection.

?

They're not all going to be long-term first team players and make no mistake, Slot and Hughes will bring in new signings before August 30 despite the lack of activity so far.
