Former Liverpool assistant manager Peter Krawietz has landed his first role back in professional football after leaving Anfield.

The German was one of the departures after Jurgen Klopp called time on his career at the Reds at the end of last season.



Krawietz joined the likes of Pep Lijnders in leaving Merseyside while the Dutchman took up an immediate post with RB Salzburg alongside Vitor Matos in Austria.

However, in light of the latest managerial change in Germany, which saw Marco Rose sacked by RB Leipzig, the German was appointed as Zsolt Low's new assistant after signing a deal on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

It marks a reunion with Klopp, who has been the club's Head of Global Soccer since January, however there is no inclination that the iconic Liverpool manager played a part in this dismissal or decision to bring his former right-hand man to East Germany.

Instead, managing director of sport Marcel Schafer has been quoted by the club as part of the official announcement.

There are two ways you feel.

"One, you have to make a decision at one point and we made this decision and we think, I think, it was the right decision.

So, that means there are reasons for your decision: if you don’t feel anymore the right energy, the right focus, the right conviction, if things have a certain development and you come to this decision, it means that you know it’s right.

You start thinking about how it was when you came in, what could we achieve, how was the journey, how intense was it?

"You think about the whole development of the club – the stadium, the training ground, when we came in we were at Melwood – the development of the players and of our relationships.

"With all this there is only one conclusion: that it was a great, massive and successful journey and this comes to an end now.

I learned a lot, there were a lot of fantastic moments and now it’s time to say goodbye.
