Liverpool have gone head-to-head against De Bruyne during his time at Man City several times over the years, with many proving to be decisive in several title races.

This summer, though, could see De Bruyne leave the Premier League altogether, with rumours linking the Belgium international with a move to either the United States or Saudi Arabia.

However, a recent report from De Standaard in Belgium claimed that Liverpool could be a potential destination for De Bruyne when he leaves Man City this summer.

Liverpool have a track record of signing players on a free transfer after leaving Man City.

The midfielder began his career with Genk in Belgium, and the club posted a video more than two decades ago of an interview featuring De Bruyne during his time with the club's academy.

“My favourite club is Liverpool and my favourite player is Michael Owen,” De Bruyne, who was 11 years old at the time, said in the interview.

In an interview with Match of the Day magazine back in 2019, the midfielder admitted that following the Reds runs in his family.

"I was a Liverpool fan," said De Bruyne.

I liked [Zinedine] Zidane and Ronaldinho too – those really skilful players."

More recently, De Bruyne spoke about the possibility of a move to a Premier League club after leaving Man City.

It could be not," said De Bruyne in a recent interview with Viaplay when asked if he could stay in the Premier League with another club.

"It's very hard because the decision of leaving is not been long so nothing can be decided in a week.

"In the football world, I don't think everything comes in a week.
