Lamine Yamal has discussed Liverpool and Barcelona’s chances of winning the UEFA Champions League this season.

Liverpool finished first in the league phase, winning seven of their games while losing the dead-rubber tie with PSV.

The win ensured that they finished top of the table, ahead of Barcelona, who finished second.

Finishing first and second means that Liverpool and the Catalan club can only meet in the final of this year’s Champions League.

The Reds could face either Brest, PSG or Benfica in the next round, with the winner of the tie between Brest and PSG joining Benfica as Liverpool’s likely opponent in the round of 16.

The draw of the next round takes place on Friday, February 21st, in Switzerland.

Ahead of the draw, Barca youngster Yamal was asked about his side’s chances of winning the tournament, and he had something to say about Liverpool.

What Lamine Yamal said about Liverpool

When he was asked whether Barcelona could win the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey this season, Yamal told Mundo Deportivo.

“It depends on us,” before adding:

There is only one team in the Champions League that is more favoured than us, and that is Liverpool because they finished first.”

“In La Liga, we are first at the moment, so it all depends on us.

It’s win, win, and when you are winning, you go through to the next round, and it becomes easier and easier.

“In the end, you have the hope, but that happens every year.

Last year, I think everyone was excited about the Champions League.

I think this year could be the year.”
