Leandro Trossard has made his feelings on Arsenal’s title chances clear ahead of what could be a title-clinching week for the Reds.
Arsenal’s comprehensive 4-0 victory over 10-man Ipswich, while dominant, does little to alter the Premier League title race’s inevitable trajectory.
Despite Leandro Trossard’s brace and clinical team performance, the Gunners remain 10 points behind Liverpool with just five games remaining.
Arsenal could hand Liverpool the Premier League title as early as Wednesday night if they lose to Crystal Palace at the Emirates.
Arne Slot’s side currently holds a commanding 13-point lead at the top with just five games remaining.
The Reds need only three more points from their last five matches to be mathematically uncatchable, which would put them on 82 points—one more than Arsenal’s maximum possible total of 81.
But speaking to the BBC post-game on Sunday, Leandro Trossard has asserted that he and his side are not worrying about what Liverpool is doing as they still try and fight until the end:
“I think it was a great game overall,” the Belgian began.
“We had a lot of chances and in the end scored four, so well done to everyone.
It is important for ourselves.”
“We don’t need to look at them [Liverpool] we just have to keep going like this and take it game by game.
We want to win every game but we know how tough it is in the league.
A good win today and we just need to keep pushing going forward.”
“It is nice to be on the scoresheet again and helping the team to get a win.
We are there for a reason, we have been doing very well in the Champions League?
We have to keep believing.”
The fact remains that Arsenal’s win merely delays Liverpool’s coronation by days, not weeks.
Mikel Arteta’s decision to field a strong XI was made possible by the fact that their UCL semi-final clash against PSG is only next week.
The Spaniard is not going to hand Liverpool the title on a plate either, and said before Ipswich:
“We will make sure that we win the game against Ipswich, and that (Liverpool winning the league) doesn’t happen,”
