Ousmane Dembele has only featured for seven minutes of competitive action against Liverpool.

But few would be surprised if they remain seared on the mind of the France international.

Dembele was a Barcelona player when introduced in the 90th minute of the Champions League semi-final first leg against the Reds at the Camp Nou back in May 2019.

With the Catalans having been inspired by two-goal Lionel Messi into a 3-0 lead, Dembele had replaced former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, scorer of the opener on the night, to help the home side successfully see out the injury-time period.

Given Liverpool failed to grab a potential tie-changing away goal, it was job done in that regard.

But while the PSG won the domestic double and reached the Champions League semi-finals in his first campaign at the Parc des Princes, Dembele scored only six goals but provided 12 assists in 42 games.

This season, though, has been different.

Flitting between playing on the right or as the central striker, he moved on to 26 goals and six assists in 33 outings so far this season with one of each in the 4-1 home thumping of Lille at the weekend.

Now 27, Dembele is realising the promise that saw him regularly linked with a number of clubs and, as a 19-year-old, be very much on Jurgen Klopp's radar at Liverpool.

“I saw Klopp in Paris but I told him I had made up my mind to sign for Dortmund,” confirmed Dembele in 2017.

And, for former France international Rio Mavuba, Dembele's form makes him a better bet to succeed than Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

But there's no doubt Dembele has progressed since fluffing his decisive moment against Liverpool almost six years ago.

With Bradley Barcola, Goncalo Ramos and Lee Kang-In also among the goals this season for PSG, it's isn't just about one forward.
