Liverpool are about to enter the business end of their pursuit of the Premier League title under Arne Slot.

But away from the glare of the first team, a number of players on the books are attempting to catch the eye of the head coach.

A total of 14 players are presently on loan from the Reds, the majority seeking the senior experience they hope will bolster their attempts to make a concerted breakthrough into Slot's first team.

And there have been some notable highs and significant lows among those who have made a temporary departure from Anfield this season.

Stefan Bajcetic (Las Palmas)

Bajcetic's initial loan spell in Austria with Red Bull Salzburg was cut short in January not long after former Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders was sacked as head coach having been in charge for mere months.

The 20-year-old midfielder instead headed to his Spanish homeland with Las Palmas, where he has already featured seven times for the relegation-threatened La Liga side and scored in a defeat to Mallorca.

His impressive showings have caught the eye of locals, with journalist Manuel Garcia stating: "He reminds me of Sergio Busquets, because of how he drives the ball and how he moves around the field."

Kaide Gordon (Portsmouth)

The 20-year-old winger is another player to have swapped loan clubs in the New Year, having started only once during a frustrating spell at Norwich City where he netted one goal.

Gordon, though, hasn't fared much better with Championship strugglers Portsmouth, having come off the bench in four defeats and been an unused substitute in four wins.

Ben Doak (Middlesbrough)

Doak was having a hugely impressive season with Middlesbrough when sidelined in late January with a thigh problem that has eventually required surgery.

The 19-year-old winger, who has three goals and seven assists in 24 Championship appearances, is back at Liverpool for rehabilitation and faces a race against time to play again this campaign.

Lewis Koumas (Stoke City)

Since making his Championship debut in the second game of the season, Koumas has appeared in all 42 Stoke matches with 31 as a starter, racking up more than 2,500 senior minutes.

The 19-year-old forward has six goals and three assists, although Stoke are in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle following a run of poor form.

Koumas has recently been linked with interest from promotion-chasing Sheffield United.

Owen Beck (Blackburn Rovers)

Beck, now 22, was in the headlines back in September when sent off in the Lancashire derby at Preston North End for a tackle that prompted a melee in which he was bitten by Milutin Osmajic, subsequently resulting in an eight-game ban for the Preston player.

The left-back was a regular starter until a hamstring injury at the start of last month that is likely to sideline him until April.

He too is reportedly in the sights of Sheffield United.

Nat Phillips (Derby County)

Remarkably now 28, a fifth loan spell away from Liverpool was something of a slow burner for Phillips until forcing his way into the starting line-up in November.

Now fit again after a calf problem, his experience will be vital as Derby look to move away from the relegation zone having won their last three games, most recently a 3-2 triumph at Plymouth Argyle during which Phillips provided only his third-ever senior career assist.

Calvin Ramsay (Kilmarnock)

Injury and the form of other players prompted Ramsay to be a bit part player at League One side Wigan Athletic before he was recalled by Liverpool in January and sent to Kilmarnock for the remainder of the season.

But having been replaced at half-time in his debut for the Scottish Premiership side, the 21-year-old right-back has since been limited to two brief substitute outings.

Luke Chambers (Wigan Athletic)

Chambers hit the ground running with the Latics, making 11 successive starts at left-back while contributing a goal and an assist before a back injury in early October forced him to return to Liverpool and be ruled out for five months.

The 20-year-old left-back, though, made his comeback earlier this month and has since made successive starts for the Latics.

Rhys Williams (Morecambe)

The 24-year-old centre-back has experienced some difficult loan moves in recent years but has had a better time at Morecambe in terms of minutes and was a regular until recently.

However, the underwhelming form of the team sees them sitting bottom of the Football League at present and facing the very real prospect of relegation given they stand seven points adrift of safety with just eight games remaining.

Luca Stephenson (Dundee United)

The versatile 21-year-old has featured in all 31 games for the Scottish Premiership side since arriving in mid-August with all bar three coming as a starter.

Stephenson, who has primarily played on the right of midfield, scored on his league debut against St Johnstone and has since contributed two more goals and two assists with the Tangerines keen on signing him on a permanent basis in the summer.

Fabian Mrozek (Forest Green Rovers)

Having been benched for the most part at Swedish top flight team IF Brommapojkarna, the 21-year-old goalkeeper has been at National League promotion-chasers Forest Green Rovers since February and has subsequently been an ever-present between the sticks.

Dominic Corness (Gillingham)

The 21-year-old featured in the first four games since moving to the League Two strugglers but hasn't played a minute since being substituted at half-time in the goalless draw at Carlisle United a month ago.

James Norris (Shelbourne FC)

Norris moved after the transfer deadline in February to link up with former Chelsea winger Damien Duff for the start of the League of Ireland season, and has swiftly established himself as first-choice left-back.

Jayden Danns (Sunderland)

Having scored for the Liverpool first team in the FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley, Danns agreed a loan move Championship side Sunderland in February but has since remained at the AXA Training Centre with a back problem that continues to keep the 19-year-old striker on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Calum Scanlon has had a nightmare season since moving to Millwall on loan.

After four months out, the 20-year-old left-back made his return with three starts before, in the return fixture against Luton, he suffered a major hamstring injury that has ended his season.
